The 300 SL Roadster replaced the legendary 300 SL Gullwing and was sold in the years 1957 to 1963 with great success. If you consider that the competition model BMW 507 at that time just 252 copies found a customer, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster with 1,858 units produced is quite a great success. The technology of the Roadster is equal to that of the gullwing and also includes, derived from a racing engine powerful straight-six, with direct injection. The 300SL models were not cheap, but exclusive and equipped with advanced technology. Anyone who had money, just wanted to afford the best. So the 300 SL Roadster found some buyers in high society. To them belonged for example: Clark Gable, Glenn Ford, Horst Buchholz and Curd Jürgens, as well as Elvis Presley and Toni Sailer.
This Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, which we offer, is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after examples of all. He was delivered in 1963 via the American Mercedes importer Max Hoffmann to his first owner in Ohio. A late model, already with disc brakes and the lighter aluminum engine, which has undergone careful revisio. The vehicle was equipped with a black hardtop and black hubcaps, as the car still presents today. From 1977 to 2001 he was owned by Robert B. Harris of Shelbyville Indiana. He then bought the elegant roadster Jack Hutton, which was based in Concord, New Hampshire. He kept the Roadster until 2015 and had it extensively revised at a very high level. The work was done by well-known US addresses. So did the bodywork Al Poskus, the mechanics Dave Twichell and Mike Curley dedicated to the interior. In 2018, the car got a new paintwork and presented itself in a deep shine that is unparalleled.
